Kolambi Bhat | Prawns Rice

Kolambi Rice:

Total Time: 40 Minutes

Serves for 4.


1) 2 Cups basmati rice

2) 1 Cup Medium size prawns

3) 2 medium sized chopped onion

4) 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste

5) 2 tsp malvani masala

6) 1 tsp garam masala

7) 1/2 tsp mustard seeds

8) 1/2 tsp cumin seeds

9) 1 tsp biryani masala

10) 2 bayleaves

11) 2 tbsp Oil

12) Curry leaves

13) Turmeric powder

14) Pinch of Asafoetida

15) Chopped coriander leaves

16) Salt to taste



Marinate prawns with salt.

Wash and soak basmati rice for 30 minutes.

Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves and bay leaves and saute for a minutes.

Add sliced onion and fry till brown.

Add ginger garlic and coriander paste and malavani masala, turmeric powder and saute it.

Then add prawns and saute it for 5 minutes, prawns will change the colour than add soaked rice and mix well.

Add 4 & 1/2 cup hot water, salt and keep a lid on it.

Cook for 20 minutes on medium low heat, stir in between.

Turn off the gas and let the rice to rest for 20 minuutes.

Garnish with chopped coriander.

Serve hot.
